Introduction
Other than the Navajo Nation, there are several tribes located in
the State of Utah.
1.
Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation
– The Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation reservation is located
in northern Utah, in Box Elder County.
2.
Goshute Tribes – There
are two recognized Goshute tribes:
a.
The Confederated Tribes of the Goshute
Reservation – Located in east-central Nevada and western Utah in Juab County;
and,
b.
The Skull Valley Band of Goshute – Located in
Tooele County.
3.
Paiute Tribes – The
Paiute Tribe consists of five bands:
a.
Cedar Band– Located in Iron County;
b.
Indian Peaks Band – Located in Beaver County;
c.
Kanosh Band – Located in Millard County;
d.
Koosharem Band – Located in Sevier County; and,
e.
Shivwits Band – Located in Washington County.
4.
Ute Tribe – The Ute
Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation is located in the eastern part
of Utah in Duchesne, Uintah, Carbon and Grand counties, in the area known as
the “Uintah Basin.”
5.
White Mesa Ute – The White
Mesa Ute reservation is part of the larger Ute Mountain Ute Tribe of Tawoac, Colorado. The
White Mesa Ute reservation is located in southeastern Utah in San Juan County.
Tribal
Councils
Because many tribes do not have a IV-D
program it may be necessary to work directly with the tribe’s tribal council
when working a Native American case (e.g., to verify if the tribe will honor
the Notice to Withhold Income for Child Support, to obtain the name(s) of
individuals authorized to serve papers [Process Server], etc.). The address for the Goshute, Paiute, Shoshone,
